Larger Than Life Wallpaper Mural

Our guest bedroom has been missing something to make it really stand out. I can’t tell you how long I’ve been searching for something eye-catching for a feature wall, which is also known as an accent wall, in that room. The wall has been blank and in need of a life for some time now. I truly wanted to liven up the room somehow. You know, add some pizzazz to the wall.  All the other rooms in our home have a focal point wall. I did not want to copy something that I’d previously done, so I’ve been waiting for just the perfect element to present itself.

I knew the days of ho hum flocked wallpaper are passed. So, I totally ruled out wallpaper. That was…until…I laid my eyes on wallpaper murals while scrolling through Instagram. They totally took me by surprise. I was flabbergasted to see how beautiful they were! Some of them are similar to an actual hand-painted mural. I couldn’t get the wallpaper murals out of my head. The scales are big, the designs are scenic, and the results are show-stopping! This is exactly what our guest bedroom needed! The wall is 118-inches high by 130-inches wide. “Go big or go home” is what it was screaming for.

I decided on a mural labeled: “Weaving Wood Cool Green.”  The definition of weave is “to construct by interlacing or interweaving strips or strands of material.” Well, one of the coolest things about this particular mural is that there are miniscule animals woven into the trees and background.

If you end up ordering a wallpaper mural that you love but think you absolutely must get a professional to hang it, think again. Wallpaper hanging is not so difficult if you follow a few golden rules. Well, five to be exact…

1.    Make sure your surface is clean.  In my case, this was the perfect time to use the attachments on our vacuum sweeper to clean baseboards, wall corners, and ceiling vents.

 2.    Prepare the wallpaper paste that comes with your order. Fill a clean bucket with one gallon of lukewarm water and slowly add the paste powder while stirring briskly. Wait five minutes and then stir again. Use a roller or brush to apply the paste directly to the wall. It’s that easy.

 3.    Hang the first panel. It’s very important to get the first length straight as this sets the template for the rest of the room.

 4.    The wallpaper panels came in consecutive batch numbers so the paper matches up perfectly. It is important to install them in order, and do not overlap the panels. I was blown away on how each panel lined up perfectly!

 5.    Smooth down the panels from ceiling to floor. Trim off any excess paper at the ceiling and baseboard.
