Late last year we had a walk-in client who told me she needed kitchen cabinets. She asked if I could take measurements—as soon as possible. Every once in a while the stars align perfectly. My work schedule is usually jam-packed. But at that very moment, I was free. So, I followed her home. Laura’s home was a mere five and half miles away.
As soon as I rounded the corner into the kitchen, I literally saw writings on the wall. I have no clue to what the previous kitchen looked like. Because everything in this kitchen had been taken out. From the lighting to the appliances, from the baseboards to the flooring, and from the cabinets to the countertops. While eyeballing the drawings on the drywall, I imagined Alan Funt and the “Candid Camera” crew hiding in the next room. I was expecting someone to jump out and say, “Smile! You’re on Candid Camera.” For half a minute there wasn’t a sound. Finally Laura smiled at me. And then she explained that her cousin had devised a hardworking L-shape layout for her new kitchen. Laura’s cousin was a smart guy. He knew when you have a small kitchen; it pays to be creative when it comes to rearranging the cabinets.
What is an L-shape kitchen? As you might have guessed from the name, this type of layout is shaped like the capital letter L. It can vary in length according to the area available and is suitable for both large and small rooms.
An L-shaped kitchen makes it easier to add a kitchen table into the mix. This was perfect because that’s exactly what our new client wanted. She also wished for crisp white cabinetry, quartz countertops, and soft buttery yellow walls.
When you look at the “before” picture, this was what I started with. It truly was a blank canvas. I couldn’t wait to see the finished transformation. I was so pumped when Laura invited me back to their home to take after pictures. I was completely smitten with Laura’s talent. She made this home cozy and comfortable. Laura is a gal who loves decorating and it show in her home, which is so stinking cute. In keeping with the spirit of the rest of the home, the finished kitchen is light, airy, and uncluttered.
Ben Hanson and Tyler Mowatt from Just Counters & other stuff did a superb job installing the cabinetry!
