Minor Changes that Made a Huge Difference

Before After

Our clients were originally from Manhattan, Illinois. Michael’s and Marian’s previous gorgeous ranch home was located on 21 acres! There was a fruit orchard, hay fields, a nut grove, lush gardens, and wetlands. But there came a time when they decided to live simply and closer to family. With their eyes set on Florida, they put their stunning home on the market, and it sold in sixteen days! They searched online for properties with a small amount of acreage. That’s when they stumbled upon, and ultimately purchased a home located in North Port, Florida.

If you want to get to our clients’ new lovely Florida home, you’ll find yourself on a tranquil get-back-to-nature leisurely drive passing vast stretches of mesmerizing, simpler landscapes which provide calming energy of nature. Speaking of nature—there’s a good chance you’ll get a glimpse of animals like bobcats, deer, and wild hogs.

After you drive through Michael’s and Marian’s winding driveway, you’ll arrive at their gorgeous piece of paradise. And much like their Illinois home, this property is surrounded by all kinds of beauty. There’s hiking trails, picnic areas, multiple outbuildings, a pond, and a garden that most will only see in their dreams. The garden has a variety of vegetation like citrus, strawberries, starfruit, mango, cherries, guava, mulberry, peaches, herbs and spices.

The exquisite, custom built home has so many incredible features throughout. But… there were three areas where Michael and Marian needed help. So, let’s start with the kitchen, shall we? There are beautiful quarter sawn oak wood kitchen cabinets, a plethora of storage space, and granite countertops. The granite countertop on the island had three angled corners, and there was considerable overhang on three sides. The overhang provided just enough room to allow us to install additional cabinetry underneath. I suggested we use Shiloh Cabinetry with Olde World black finish (worm holing, panel gouging, wearing, rock dents, crackle, and with brown undertones that would match the existing cabinets to a “T”). My design included four new cabinets to be installed (three in the front and one to the far left). Marian found a perfect tiny microwave to fit in this narrow cabinet. I absolutely love how this amazing kitchen looks now! The distressed cabinets were a game changer. And just for kicks, take a look at the side-by side-before and after pictures. I still can’t over the transformation!

Next up was the wet bar in Michael’s and Marian’s home office. To my surprise, there weren’t any cabinets underneath the granite countertop. We used Aspect Cabinetry painted Black Magic to make this a functioning space. As you can see, the new homeowners are currently using the countertop for their office equipment.

Last, but not least, was the guest bath. Michael and Marian requested more storage, but wanted to keep the existing vanity. A utility cabinet, utilizing the height of the room, solved their storage concerns. Aspect Cabinetry’s towering cabinet, painted Dover white, was designed to work seamlessly with the existing bathroom vanity cabinets. It offers a lot of extra storage and is ideal for storing a variety of items.

What’s the best way to thank someone for being a great help to you, or show gratitude to someone who has given you the best gift ever? Handwritten cards or notes are always the winners! I’d like to share the handwritten thank you card we received from the pleased homeowners:

Dear Staff at Just Counters,

Mike and I would like to thank all of you for the very beautiful cabinets.

Michele Rose designed 3 perfect solutions for the kitchen island, office area, and bath. Mark Kemeny (owner of Just Counters) provided some design tips that were helpful and resulted in the upgraded look.

Ben Hanson, Tyler Mowatt, and Jeff Reed worked very hard to install all the cabinets on 2 different occasions. They were efficient, precise, and smart installers.

Cindy Kohls-Brophy the patient and cheerful front desk voice that holds everything together was very helpful.

Many thanks to all. Great teamwork!

Sincerely,

Mike and Marian
