One of the first decisions Michele and John made was the flooring. After all, it only makes sense to start where their feet step. So, they choose moisture resistant porcelain tiles.
Next up was the cabinetry. Michele wanted a horizontal grain pattern to travel in one direction: from left to right. The homeowner was aiming for contemporary and intriguing. Textured melamine was the perfect choice. It features a beautiful grain pattern and texture that translates into a sleek, clean finish and modern style. Michele wanted the cabinet to take center stage, and draw the attention. Frameless cabinets with flat-panel doors work best for a horizontal wood grain finish. As you can see in the “after” photos the new kitchen is simple and sleek, with a modern look.
To open up the space John and Michele had the bar-height wall lowered to counter height, which opens it up beautifully to the adjoining family room. The beautiful countertop material they selected is cotton white quantum quartz with small gray veining and soft white hue.
One of the coolest things the homeowners did was install a round recessed pop-up electrical outlet that’s water-proof safe for their new kitchen countertop. It eliminates a dangerous drooping cord hanging over the edge of the peninsula. The hidden outlet gives John and Michele power whenever they need it, without having to rely on messy-looking extension cords. Plus, it’s small in size, big on power, and a clever way of saving space!
Finally, after all those months of living in rentals, John and Michele are back in their beautiful renovated home. They are enjoying their fabulous new kitchen; it’s now the beating heart of their home.
I really love that kitchen! I love that the microwave is neatly tucked up within the cabinets, the counter height counter top is expansive and clean and they even took the arch out of the doorway for a cleaner, more modern look! The new pendant lights are perfect and the new fridge is a show piece! Love the “white board” ability! Well done!
