“How did you hear about Just Counters & other stuff?” This is usually one of my first questions I ask when I meet a new client. But on the day Cindy Kohls-Brophy (our wonderful receptionist at Just Counter’s) and I were invited to a lovely home to take “after” pictures I asked Neil and Jean to share their story of how they met. I’m a sucker for love stories.
After an unfortunate divorce and moving back to her home state, Jean eventually wanted to date again. Working fulltime and living in a rural area, Jean was unable to meet very many eligible single men. So, Jean’s love story begins with a spontaneous decision to join match dot com. At least with the online dating site, she would be in control and could meet people from the comfort of her own home, on her own time. She kept her search criteria broad to increase the pool of possible soulmates from whom to choose. Her interests and hobbies were broad and generic so as not to turn off a future spouse by being too unique. She worked hard to make herself as likeable as a golden retriever puppy. Sure, maybe she wouldn’t be able to please everyone, but with a profile like hers, she could at least get a date.
A short while later, with not much success, Jean was about to shut down her account. She scrolled through all the possible male candidates and narrowed them down to three. Jean had been looking for a man with a big heart. That’s when her eye caught Neil’s profile. He was a widower. After communicating back and forth online, in time they spoke on the telephone. “I asked Neil what he was looking for in a woman. When he replied, he gave me the chills because he described me to a T,” smiled Jean.
One of the biggest challenges to overcome was that one of them lived in Vermont, the other in Connecticut. While time zone wise it was not difficult, they were 5 hours apart. At long last they met, dated for a while, fell in love, and finally married.
One thing that I noticed about their relationship was the way they genuinely cared and appreciated each other. It was obvious that the little things truly mattered to them. They’ve been happily married for seventeen years.
The sweet couple decided to move from where winters were gray, long, and dark to the sunshine state. They purchased a spacious first floor 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo located in a popular gated community in Port Charlotte, Florida. Most everyone loves these gorgeous throw-the-budget-out-the-window stunning kitchen renovations. However, Neil and Jean just wanted to do a minimal kitchen remodel to spruce things up. The kitchen had great bones and needed only some cosmetic changes. So, they set out to upgrade the dated laminate countertops with Cambria quartz. With sea blue and beige swirls on a creamy white backdrop, Cambria Montgomery was the perfect complement to pair with the existing white cabinets. The kitchen faucet they selected is Camerist from Moen.
The homeowners decided to splurge on the master bath. They wanted to add much-needed storage. I designed his-and-hers dual vanities for them to have their own personal space when getting ready and preparing for the day. An upper tower storage cabinet separates the two sinks and provides plenty of storage in order to hide clutter and keep personal items out of site. The tower provides better storage than an in-the-wall-medicine-cabinet. Another added plus: now there are drawers! The homeowners selected Cambria’s Montgomery for the countertop. A 4-inch backsplash was installed underneath the tall tower to prevent the wood from getting wet.
The cabinets are from Aspect Cabinetry. The raised panel door style is Oxford painted Tundra with latte highlights. The contemporary brushed-nickel arched bridge pull hardware is from Richelieu Hardware adds beauty and simplicity. The two widespread brushed-nickel vanity faucets, Wynford, are from Moen.
Just Counter’s talented installer, Tommy McCaffrey, worked his magic in the master bath! He is an expert craftsman. His attention to detail is simply amazing, his workmanship is impressive and the quality of his work outstanding.
The former condo that was formerly dull is now lighter, brighter and feels like home to Neil and Jean. Now the sunny Florida home reflects both of them, together. The nicest, most unpretentious couple found their style!
