Our clients, Greg and Tammy, stopped in at Just Counters & Other Stuff to ask if our team could undertake the massive transformation of turning a room into a dream dressing space. Lucky for Tammy, there was a rarely used room off the master bedroom. Their idea was to turn it into a custom “glam closet.” Our team wanted to give the clients exactly what they wanted: boutique-style hanging wardrobes with stainless-steel rods, adjustable open shelving, and plenty of stacked drawers. We also added an accessory cabinet with shallow drawers so our client can easily organize her jewelry, belts, scarves, and other small items. The new corner built-ins feature angle radius shelves. The remodeled glam closet is absolutely breathtaking! The storage space and functionality have made such a difference in Tammy’s everyday life.
The first picture is the actual “blueprint” that was given to me. It my starting point for a “glam closet.” I know. The next step was to create a wish list from the homeowner. Tammy wanted to make the best use possible of both corners, provide plenty of storage for her shoes, hanging rods for single hung items (long items such as dresses) and double hung rods (for shorts, tank tops, blouses, and shirts). She wanted some deep drawers for clothing and inserts for jewelry. Last, but not least, a shelf above the whole enchilada to store seldom used items.
Interior design is the practice of space planning and designing interior spaces in homes and buildings. So, the next step in the project was to design the layout of the room to make sure everything on the wish list would fit into the new room. The computer design program generated a 3D image of their new room.
When a client has exquisite taste in clothing she needs equally exquisite closet customizations. We brought our “A” game to this client’s closet by adding a center island. The result: a boutique-like experience where the homeowner can “shop” her own wardrobe.
Let’s dig in and talk details, starting with the left of the entry door, and working around to the right. Shall we? There are six drawers and rods to hang mid-length sized items. Then six corner radius shelves followed by a rod to hang long dresses and then double rods to hang shorter apparel, such as blouses, shorts and folded jeans. Then another corner cabinet, followed by storage for shoes, shoes, and more shoes! Finally, there’s a pair of double hung rods to hang countless short garments.
This just goes to show the power of good design, to convert a space into a functional and beautiful glamorous closet. A designer should never get all the credit; it takes a team to complete a renovation. Our talented installer Tommy McCaffrey and Sam Zwack did an outstanding job. Their work is exceptional, and the pictures speak volumes.
This closet tour isn’t a celebrity’s closet, but it certainly feels and looks like one! I can only imagine how much fun it would be to get dressed in this little glamorous room! There was a framed sign in Tammy’s closet that read: “Life isn’t Perfect but your Outfit can be.” With everything we’ve all been experiencing this year, the important thing to remember is—no matter how you feel: get up, dress up, show up and never give up!
So, until next week, stay safe.
