What is your favorite color? This is one of the earliest questions children learn to answer. And surprisingly (at least it was to me) that more than any other hue, blue ranks as the worldwide favorite, in ten countries across four continents. Peaceful, wide-open clear blue sky and tranquil blue water are the things that we all experience universally no matter where you are in the world.
“Quick, name your favorite color.” What better way to break the ice than discovering your new friend’s best-loved color? If the reply is blue, there are a million shades of blue in the world. Ranging from the color of bravery and dedication of the dark blue uniforms worn by men and women dedicated to preserving our safety to the palest colors of the birthstone: blue topaz.
In addition to being obsessed with blue, especially for the interior of their costal property, Denise is a talented interior decorator. Your home tells the story of you. Denise had a way of taking a boring, cookie-cutter home that is just… blah and turning it into a thoughtfully designed home that feels like her and Bret.
Our customers, Bret and Denise, purchased their stunning Punta Gorda custom home in June of 2020. The home is the everyday boaters/anglers dream home. Being they are just minutes to the harbor, they can dock a boat right outside their backdoor. They can spend a day island hopping with playful dolphins riding their wake, or take a weekend getaway to the best marina resorts, or else take an impromptu romantic cruise to watch the sun set over the harbor.
This immaculate 3-bedroom, 2.5-bath luxury waterfront home is beautiful. But then again because Denise loves blue, she wanted to incorporate this color into their new home. She let her creative spirit shine throughout their home.
Wallpaper is back with a bang! In the guest bath, Bret and Denise removed the green palm leaf wallpaper and over-the-top-tropical shower curtain. A lot of people worry about resale value when renovating their homes. While it’s wise to take this into consideration when making big decisions, Denise and Bret felt they should decorate this room with what they love. After they stripped the previous wallpaper, they decided to replace it with wallpaper of their liking. Well, they went ahead with the daring vivid blue and white color wallpaper scheme and it’s one of the most-commented-on features of the space now. The stunning new wallpaper adds depth and dimension to the room, creating opportunities for contrast and allowing objects to stand out. They don’t regret it one bit.
So, then this is where I came into the picture. If you love walk-in showers, you’re not alone. Bret and Denise wanted to replace the pretty, but impractical, bathtub with a walk-in shower. The homeowners wanted a large shower area with an easy entry and a contemporary, 2022s look for the room. When undergoing the bathtub to shower conversion Bret and Denise felt safety was paramount. So, a grab bar was installed.
Bret and Denise wanted to replace the three walls of blah and boring shower tiles. The homeowners knew that finding modern tiles that would play well with the bold wallpaper wasn’t going to be easy. So, they asked for my help. They asked for a new layout with lots of personality. I knew, of course, that the shower tiles must compliment the vivid blue and white wallpaper. I suggested a best choice of blue and white interlocking mosaic tiles in the shape of 3-inch hexagons by Tesoro Deco Bark Linear on the shower floor along with a vertical strip on the back wall where the niche would be. Tesoro Madras (color: matte Bianco) for the shower walls was another great choice. My favorite aspect of this makeover is how the tiles complement the wallpaper.
The new shower with the glass door makes the room feel larger without the bulk of a shower curtain. We installed a 6-foot-wide glass shower door that was worth the expense. The Kohler shower door with a barn door style operation is designed to operate smoothly with a sleek, minimalist look. It looks amazing!
The homeowners are very happy with the results. I wish to thank all teams of workers who took their work seriously and it shows. They all did a great job. Let’s start with the team from Just Counters & other stuff: Cindy Kohls-Brophy, Bill Rice, and Aaron Shaffer. The tile pro from Pucci Tile & Marble, Inc. provided great quality and craftsmanship. Every one of you did a fantastic job
The secret to combining “wow” wallpaper and beautiful tiles successfully in a bathroom is to be bold and positive. Bret and Denise will be able to surprise their guests with a stunning blue-themed bathroom with wallpaper and shower that dazzles. See you next week.
