When Kathy and her husband, Kim, (snowbirds from St. Louis, Missouri) purchased a spacious condo in Lake Suzy, Florida, they both immediately felt right at home in the golf community, people-friendly neighborhood. But the one space that wasn’t so welcoming was their kitchen. They contacted Just Counters & other stuff and enlisted my help.
During the initial consultation in their new condo, there were a lot of things the homeowner wanted to change about their kitchen. One of those desired changes was the half-wall between the kitchen and family room. They wanted us to take the half-wall out entirely to create a more open space between the two rooms. They love entertaining, so to make the condo more open and user friendly whenever there would be lots of people over, this half-wall had to go.
Speaking of things that had to go…trends come and go and, before you know it, what you thought was stylish once is now behind the times. Dusty blue and mauve was big in the 1980s and 1990s, when those colors showed up on carpeting, sectional sofas, and accent walls. Unfortunately, nothing made Kathy’s and Kim’s kitchen look dated more than the blue and mauve wallpaper.
Dated fluorescent lighting and popcorn ceilings throughout, made the condo feel like it was stuck in the past. Oh, popcorn ceilings! Shall we agree that the only place popcorn belongs is buttered and in our laps as we are watching a great movie?
The existing kitchen had been outfitted with all the hallmarks of a lackluster builder-grade cabinets, laminate countertops, and blah flooring.
First to go was the half-wall. By removing the wall, it gave us much-needed square footage for a show stopping island. The star of the room will double as a kitchen table and a prep space.
Next to go was the fluorescent lighting, popcorn ceilings, and dated wallpaper. A cure to the dated flat panel cabinetry and laminate countertops, the new homeowners chose Aspect’s bright white cabinets Shaker-style cabinets with gleaming ocean beige granite countertops. We installed glossy glass subway tiles to add sophistication to this kitchen. The satin nickel pull hardware is from Richelieu, and it was the stunning jewelry the cabinets needed. Wood look porcelain tile has a realistic appearance mimicking a traditional wood grain. The tile is highly durable and can withstand heavy foot traffic, and wear and tear.
Since seeing is believing I will provide you with “before” and “after” photos. The result of this kitchen makeover is a sunny room with plenty of unique touches.
It took a lot of professionals, working as a team, to transform this condo. Teams from Just Counters & other stuff, Coral Coast Construction, Imex Stone, and Pucci Tile created this beautiful functional kitchen. Ben Hanson is one of the finest workers at Just Counters. Ben’s calm and ‘can do’ attitude makes him a huge asset to our team.
Have a wonderful week.

That kitchen is lovely!! Wow! Welcome back to modern days with a timeless look! I don’t see that kitchen ever going out of style! Good job one and all!
It’s hard to believe that this kitchen is the same space. Our team helped turn this old and tired kitchen into a place where the homeowners will want to spend some time cooking and entertaining. The homeowners were really pleased with the end result. Thank you a lot for your compliment. It made my day.
