Even if you don’t have a space that’s all that big, you can still have the home bar of your dreams. Take the case of our client, a dentist. His first step in creating a bar was deciding on where he wanted it to be. His plans was to remove a dated china cabinet and convert the small space into a well-equipped bar. He wanted the dry bar designed to blend with the rest of his breathtaking kitchen which I had designed for him, years ago. He wanted the bar to have the same exact cabinetry, the same countertops, hardware, and tile backsplash as the kitchen. However, he unleashed his creative prowess when he scrolled through Pinterest for a design inspiration to amp up his game. That’s when a solid jumping-off point got his creative juices flowing. After this dentist showed me his inspiration picture, he asked me for a killer-looking bar, so that’s exactly what we gave him.
This well-designed bar should have the necessary shelving for the homeowner’s cool drinking glasses, and his vast selection of bourbons. A bar is a bit like a miniature specialty kitchen, so it needs to stands up to wear. That’s why our customer wanted Shiloh’s all plywood cabinetry. The beautiful white cabinets have flush inset doors. The dentist wanted a hard stone countertop surface. A bar is often subjected to every kind of abuse from red wine to lemons and limes – the ultimate enemy. So, he chose Cambria’s Berwyn, once again, to blend seamlessly with his kitchen.
But, hands down, the real wow factor is the custom wall cabinet. Mark Kemeny, the owner of Just Counters & other stuff, inc. asked me to text him the cabinet inspiration picture that the dentist had seen on Pinterest. How can I best put it, with only a text picture, Mark used leftover cardboard to create the design mockup. From this, he made the cabinet insert come to life. The built-in looks like it was made by the engineers at the cabinet manufacturing plant. Mark’s workmanship is excellent, and he matched the cabinet to the dentist’s taste exactly. Instead of keeping the bourbon hidden in a cabinet, the dentist wanted to put them on display. Mark took this piece of art and turned it into reality.
Putting a little extra thought and time into designing the perfect bar setup goes a long way. The lighting can be just as important as the overall design. Under cabinet lighting, rope lights tucked underneath the shelves and behind the face frames, along with LEDs that change color made a huge difference. The showstopping center piece and lighting leaves a lasting impression on anyone who sees this bar in person. Pictures just simply don’t do this masterpiece justice.
Now guests can help themselves without interrupting the cook in the nearby kitchen. The dentist absolutely loves the bar!
It took a team to pull this amazing bar off. Just Counter’s Ben Hanson and Tyler Mowatt installed the cabinets and mouldings. Aaron Shaffer set up all the lighting and electrical. Imex Stone installed the bar top. Pucci Tile installed the tile backsplash.
Cheers everyone! See you next week!
